Little Roodee, Arrival Building

Chester

One of Chester’s landmark sites, sitting between the Castle Keep and Harrison’s bridge, the Little Roodee is an important open space. The new building has been sited to enhance the townscape of the area and limit visual disruption to the setting of the castle when viewed from Grosvenor Bridge. Donald Insall Associates’ design creates a simple vaulted foyer space under a sedum-planted roof between pavilions. The vault is fully glazed to the Little Roodee, forming a welcoming arch for the approaching coaches and visitors. It also accommodates a commercial cafe operation and visitor facilities.
